Weight

My efforts at weight loss have been ‘shabby’ to say the least. Despite the prospect of running 150 miles looming over me I still can’t quite get in to the weight loss ‘zone’. I have joined Slimming World and will shame myself publicly in an effort to make it work! I have only logged my weight since joining Slimming World this time round, and have not taken into account my weight in 2002, which was a hefty 22st 6lb.

(at risk of suffocating on my own face fat!!)

28th August 2008 – 14st 3.5lb (+0.5lb) Total loss – 46lbs (3st 5lb)

Not too disappointed by that. Last weeks was a bit of a false loss as i’d just don’t a hard fell arce and got weighed straight after dressed only in running shorts and vest.  So fully clothed without the benefit of having sweat out a load of weight I wasn’t too disappointed to have had a small gain. I am very focused now, mainly as there’s not long to go. So every week needs to be either a loss or a maintain, it’ll be hard, but then nobody ever said this would be easy!!

21st August 2008 – 14st 3lb (-2lb) Total loss – 46.5lbs (3st 5.5lb)

I rushed straight from the Pilsley Fell Race to get weighed so didn’t arrive til late. I was in my shorts and vest and had done a hard Fell Race so was a little disappointed that it was only a 2lb loss. But I did have a lot of cow poo and mud on me, so maybe that weighed me down a bit! On reflectiion though i’ve lost over half a stone in 2 weeks. I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a small gain next week as I think tonights weight loss may have been a bit false due to dehydration and lack of clothing, but i’m happy i’m getting close to that 13st 13lb mark after a few months of messing around.

14th August 2008 – 14st 5lb (-6lb) Total loss – 44.5lbs (3st 3.5lb)

I am really please with that, and a little surprised too if i’m honest! But its definitely the boost I needed. I am now only 5lb off my lightest weight since May, and only 1st 12lb off of my target. I’m hoping the next 6 weeks are really good, and will get me down to around 13st 7lb. Must avoid booze and BBQ’s!!

7th August 2008 – 14st 11lb (+4.5lb) Total loss – 39.5lbs (2st 11.5lb)

Unbelievable. I’m gutted. I didn’t expect that even though I didn’t have a great week. I really need to sort myself out, and I think this is the kick up the arse I need. I think what I really need to cut out is the booze. I don’t drink loads, but I’ve had at least one boozey social arrangement every weekend for the last few months. And they always seem to lead to eating junk when drunk, and then ‘recovery’ junk the next day. Gutted, but I think i’m focussed again!

31st July 2008 – 14st 6.5lb (-1lb) Total loss – 44lbs (3st 2lb)

I’ll settle for that. I’ve had a good weeks running, but its been a bit mixed with the food and drink, so all in all I deserved a one pound loss. If I keep that up i’ll be at my target weight just before I go out to Morocco!

24th July 2008 – 14st 7.5lb (—-) Total loss – 43lbs (3st 1lb)

Okay, lets pretend the last couple of months didn’t happen!! The foot injury and lack of running really hit my motivation. It also coincided with a large number of social engagements that involved booze, which also hit my weight as i’d virtually been tee-total. But I am back running again, and 100% focussed, which is good as there are only 36 weeks to go until I go out to the desert and I need to lose 2 stone (28lb). I can do it, i’ve done it before, and this time its almost a matter of life and death!!

1st May 2008 – 14st 0lb (- 1.5lb) Total loss – 50.5lbs  (3st 8.5lbs)

I’m shocked and surprised by that. I did run a Half Marathon on Sunday but i’ve been rubbish since then. I’ve been working til midnight in the library every night working on my dissertation, so evening meals have mainly conisted of pop, crisps and chocolate from the vending machines. I hope it doesn’t show up next week as I’d quite like to lose another couple of pound! Its going to be hard as i’m not running due to this stress fracture, so will have to extra good with the food and make sure I get to the gym for some CV work. I’m even considering Boxing training, but we’ll see. I don’t want to ruin my good looks!

24th April 2008 – 14st 1.5lb (- 2lb) Total loss – 49lbs  (3st 7lbs)

Well i’ve got to be happy with that. I had a pretty good week generally, but did go out Friday night for some binge drinking! Managed to pull it back in order with a few gym sessions and some time in the sauna. Ideally I would’ve like 4lb, but 2lb got me my 3st 7lb sticker. Its taken 11 weeks to get from 3st to 3st 7lb, hopefully it doesn’t take as long to get to 4st!!

17th April 2008 – 14st 3.5lb (- 6lb) Total loss – 47lbs  (3st 5lbs)

Really happy with that after an excellent week food wise. I thought it may even be more. Hopefully I can keep this up, as I’m quite motivated at the moment. The lack of running means I’ve got to keep a tight reign on my food, but i’m doing a lot of gym work, and using the sauna to make up for not running. A 4lb weight loss next week would put me down into the 13st bracket, but i’d be happy with 2lb to get me my 3st 7lb sticker!

10th April 2008 – 14st 9.5lb (+ 6lb) Total loss – 41lbs

Err………..how is that possible? You run a marathon……26.2 miles……….on your feet moving for over 4 hours……….but you still gain 6lb???? At this rate i’ll be coming home from the desert OBESE!!! I know people say you gain weight after marathons, but normally only a pound or two of retained water, so this is ridiculous. I suppose I did reward myself again with a couple of takeaway’s, and may have taken my eye off the a bit, but generally I’m not happy. I will have to have a spot on week next week and hopefully get down near the 14st mark again. I was supposed to be at my target weight for Paris, I will obviously have to re-evaluate that!

27th March 2008 – 14st 3.5lb (- 3.5lb) Total loss – 47lbs

Superb!!! Not sure how I managed that?? I think the hangover on Sunday, after the ridiculous amount of alcohol drunk on Saturday may expalin someof it. Not eating for 24 hours and ‘losing’ every thing you’d eaten in the previous 24 hours could expalin it. I will definitely not be drinking like that for a very long time. All in all a very silly thing to do 7 days before a marathon, but still i’m the lightest i’ve been for a long, long time, so maybe it was worth it!

27th March 2008 – 14st 7lb (+ 1.5lb) Total loss – 43.5lbs

A bit disappointed with that, but hardly surprising given it was Easter weekend, and we’d been away for it. The last couple of months have been a bit rubbish. Not being able to run has really hit my motivation on all fronts. Hopefully though i’ll get the nod to remove the brace from my foot and I can start running again. That coincides nicely with the start of MdS 2008, so i’m feeling really motivated to up the training and be more disciplined with my eating. I’ve basically got 12 months in which to lose 2 stone……………..EASY!!!

20th March 2008 – 14st 5.5lb (+ 0.5lb) Total loss – 45lbs

Not surprised. It could’ve been worse. But this whole ‘being injured’ thing is really affecting my motivation!!

13th March 2008 – 14st 5lb (- 2.5lb) Total loss – 45.5lbs

I was very surprised by that weight loss. My eating has been good all week, but I went out drinking on Friday and Saturday night (very unlike me these days, which the hangover Saturday morning after 3 pints on Friday night proved!!). I have also been completely inactive because of this stress fracture, and the leg brace thingy i’m wearing to speed up the recovery. There are things I can do at the gym, but the beauty of running is you can just head off wherever and whenever you want, and not be constrained by opening hours. I might start lobbying for a 24 hour gym in Sheffield.

Missed slimmer of the week by half a pound….gutted! But its Man of the Year coming up soon, so I might just go on a bread and water diet for the next month, not that I’m sticker obsessed or anything!

6th March 2008 – 14st 7.5lb (- 2lb) Total loss – 43lbs

Well i’m back where I was a month ago which is good, as it means i’ve lost the weight I put on, but its bad also because i’ve wasted a month! In theory I should’ve lost 6 – 8lb this month which would’ve put me under 14 stone. But on the bright side i’ve not put any weight on. Sadly though with a stress fracture of the metatarsal I won’t be running for the next 3 – 4 weeks, so will have to try and do some other form of excercise to help with the weight loss. I’m also out Friday and Saturday night, so if I maintain next week i’ll be happy. (P.S I won Slimmer of the Week this week and got another shiney new sticker………….result!!!)

28th February 2008 – 14st 9.5lb (+/- 0lb) Total loss – 41lbs

I maintained this week, which is okay considering we went out for two meals at the weekend. The second half of the week was much better though, but training has been shelved because of this foot injury. I’ll have to go swimming or something next week to help boost the weight loss.

21st February 2008 – 14st 9.5lb (+0.5lb) Total loss – 41lbs

A bit dissappointed with that after running a bloody Marathon at the weekend!! But i i’m honest I have been ‘rewarding’ myself a bit too much this week, and eating things I don’t normally eat, like Mars Bars! I also got a fair bit of chocolate and turkish delight for Valentine’s Day, so I suppose it all adds up. Paris Marathon is in 6 weeks. I was hoping to be close to 13st 7lb, but now I would like to be 13st 13lb. So thats 10.5lb in 6 weeks, so almost 2lb a week. It’s achievable, but i’m going to have to be a good boy, and do lots of running and eat properly!

14th February 2008 – 14st 9lb (+1.5lb) Total loss – 41.5lbs

Not really surprised by that weight gain. I’ve eased off of the running to taper for Sunday’s marathon, and i’ve also upped my calorie intake in order to be fully fuelled. Being ready for Sunday is far more important than weight loss at the moment.

7th February 2008 – 14st 7.5lb (-4lb) Total loss – 43lbs

I’ve now lost 3st 1lb in the last 6 months, and nearly 8st from my heaviest, so am really happy. I knew i’d had a good week this week as I haven’t had much of an appetite. I don’t know whether my appetite is now that of a normal person rather than a bloater, or whether I’m just not feeling too clever? Either way i’ll take 4lbs in one week!! Oh, and I bagged my 3 stone sticker and Slimmer of the Week…………….sticker-tastic!!

31st January 2008 – 14st 11.5lb (-2.5lb) Total loss – 39lbs

A bit surprised by that tonight. I’ve not been running too much this week, as I’ve got a dose of Man Flu. Still bravely struggling on though!! Also had a takeaway as a bit of a treat earlier in the week after the Adoption moved on to the next stage. But i’ll take that loss and run, and hope it doesn’t show up next week! It would be nice to lose 3lb next week and get a nice shiny 3 stone sticker.

 24th January 2008 – 15st 0lb (-2.5lb) Total loss – 36.5lbs

Why is it we always want more? This weeks weight loss was a sound 2.5lb, but I still wanted more to sneak into the 14 stones! Nevermind though, I got my 2 and a half stone, and new shiny sticker! Next week I will be in the 14′s, and I have lost 10.5lb in 3 weeks! And if I have a super week and lose 3.5 lb that’ll be a stone in January, which I would happily take!

17th January 2008 – 15st 2.5lb (-1.5lb) Total loss – 34lbs

Mixed feelings about that. I was hoping for 2.5lbs to give me my 2st 7lb award. But normally I put on weight after a big weight loss, so to lose, and lose as much as I did is a good thing. I need at least 1lb for next week, but 3lb would be great!

10th January 2008 – 15st 4lb (-6.5lb) Total loss – 32.5lbs

Well happy with that weight loss, but I knew it would come off fairly easily once I was back on the eating and training plan properly. I feel really good and focused again, and having a few interim targets to aim for now has certainly helped. I need to lose 2.5lb this week to get to the 2 and a half stone mark and 4.5lb to get under the 15 stone mark.

3rd January 2008 – 15st 10.5lb (+6lb) Total loss – 26lbs

It could have been a lot lot worse if I hadn’t have got some running in over the Festive Period. On a positive note I can’t wait to get back to eating fruit and vegetables as I feel bloated and fat. So with a positive head on getting rid of that weight should be easy!

20th December 2007 – 15st 4.5lb (-2.5lb) Total loss – 32lbs

Pleased and a bit surprised by that. At least it gives me a bit more of a ‘buffer’ for over Christmas!! We’re away next week so won’t be getting weighed……………its probably for the best!!

13th December 2007 – 15st 7lb (+0.5lb) Total loss – 29.5lbs

Little bit disappointed with that gain. I really thought i’d lost a couple of pound, despite eating a bit of rubbish food while I was working away. Although recently it seems I have a big weight loss followed by a small weight gain, so all in all it equates to a net loss which is good. It looks like i’ll miss my target of being under 15 stone by the New Year, but its going well and if I can stay around this weight over Christmas I’ll be pleased.

6th December 2007 – 15st 6.5lb (-5lb) Total loss – 30lbs

WOW!!! For the same reason I didn’t know why I put weight on last week, I don’t know why I lost so much this week! Running has been hit and miss because of work and Uni, and the eating hasn’t been great because of Christmas Do’s. But i’ll take that and run! I just need to keep my eye on the ball as I normally follow big weight losses with weight gains, so it would be nice to follow up with a loss of 1 or 2lbs next week.

29th November 2007 – 15st 11.5lb (+2lb) Total loss – 25lbs

Gutted!!! I was so close to 2 stone and now I feel miles away. I really don’t know where that has come from as i’ve had a great eating and training week. I suppose the body just doesn’t work in 7 day cycles and apparently doesn’t appreciate Thursday is Fat Club day!!!! Just hope I can pull it back next week.

22nd November 2007 – 15st 9.5lb (-4lb) Total loss – 27lbs

Oooo, so close to getting that 2 stone sticker!! Was a bit surprised by a 4lb weight loss, but i’d had a good week food wise and also had my highest weeks mileage total (32 miles). In the end I was probably a bit disappointed not to get a 5lb loss. Still I’m on course for being under 15st for Christmas, thats if I can avoid eating and drinking too much in the festive period (which apparently starts on December 1st these days!!)

15th November 2007 – 15st 13.5lb (-1.5lb) Total loss – 23lbs

Get in, i’ve done it (just)!! I have finally sneaked below 16st and am now the lightest i’ve been since 1999. I reverted back to my lightweight clothing as I knew i’d need the boost after a few days staying in hotels. I hadn’t been too bad, but not been religious with the diet, so 1.5lb was a nice surprise. Still off course in terms of my Christmas Target, but if I can get to 15st 7lb that would be ok.

8th November 2007 – 16st 1lb (-1lb) Total loss – 21.5lbs

Only a 1 pound loss which I was a bit disappointed with, although I was wearing particularly heavy clothing!! Still i’m sneaking closer and closer to that 16st mark! I don’t think i’ll hit my Christmas Target at this rate though!

1st November 2007 – 16st 2lbs (-3.5lb) Total loss – 20.5lbs

Get in!! Last week we had to give our Target for Christmas at Simming World. Most people were setting targets of between 7 -14lbs, but I need to be below 15 stone, so I set myself a weight loss target of 20lbs which equates to 2.5lbs a week. So to lose 3.5lbs this week is great! Its going to be really tough losing that much weight every week, but I just need to keep increasing the training and watching what I eat (and avoiding the booze – which is tough this time of year!)

25th October 2007 – 16st 5.5lbs (+1lb) Total loss – 17lbs

That was a relief, I thought it was going to be a lot more to be honest! I was working away at the beginning of the week, and its always hard to be ‘good’ when you’re eating on the move and in restaurants. I also got very little running done, so to only put on one pound is acceptable, but I will need to pull my socks up if i’m going to be down to 15stone before Christmas!

18th October 2007 – 16st 4.5lbs (-1.5lbs) Total loss – 18lbs

Well that came as I surprise after the weekend I had. We went away to London for Rach’s birthday, so over did the eating and drinking. Even when we came back we were finding it hard to get back on the wagon, so I was bracing myself for a hefty gain! So a loss, and a fairly big loss at that, was a very welcome and has given me the kick up the bum I needed. I’m only 3lb away from a stone and a half, which in 10 weeks is fantastic and bang on schedule. I’m also only 5lb away from being the lightest i’ve been since 1999!

11th October 2007 – 16st 6lbs (-2lbs)   Total loss – 16.5lbs

I was hoping this would be a bigger loss as it was over a two week period, but essentially I have lost 7lb in 3 weeks, so can’t be too disappointed! I really need to be losing 2lb a week if i’m going to hit my target by March, but will be satisfied if it is slightly less. Its only when you lift up a 2lb weight that you realise how heavy it is, and would a tall order it is to lose that much weight on a weekly basis. I’m expecting to gain weight next week as we are having a long weekend away for Rachel’s birthday, and as committed as I have been its nice to occassionally have a break from Quorn!

27th September 2007 – 16st 8lbs (-5lbs)    Total loss – 14.5lb

Extremely happy with that. Was a little surprised it was so much, but have had a really good week on the eating and training front. We have a couple of days out planned this weekend as its our wedding anniversary, so I hope I don’t do too much damage to that weight loss!

 20th September 2007 – 16st 13lbs (+0.5lb)    Total loss – 9.5lb

Stunned, surprised, amazed, shocked, dismayed, staggered, astonished, flabbergasted, gobsmacked and speechless!! Really don’t know how I put on weight after last weeks efforts, but I must remind myself that the body doesn’t work in 7 day cycles and maybe the weight gain was the result of the previous week. Either way it was not satisfactory. If i’m going to reach my target by March I need to be losing on average 2lb a week, but with the gains in the last two weeks i’m already behind, which is a shame as its only going to get harder with the more weight I lose.

 13th September 2007 – 16st 12.5lbs (+0.5lb)    Total loss – 10lb

Bit disappointed with the weight gain, but not surprised. Its been a difficult week due to attending an Adoption Course. The difficult subject matter meant an emotional rollercoaster which left us completely drained (and the buffet was really good too!!) So the training and eating front has taken a back seat, but to have just a half pound increase isn’t as bad as I was expecting. Hopefully a good 7 days should get me back on course.

6th September 2007 – 16st 12lbs (-3lbs)        Total loss – 10.5lb

Bit surprised by this weight loss as I was working away last week, and its always difficult to eat well in hotels and restaurants. And then my sister-in-law gave birth last week, and because of a few complications we have been to the hospital most nights and again its difficult to eat well from vending machines! I’ve had a good weeks running though and seem to have pulled it back in. I’m hoping for a 3.5lb loss this week to make it a stone in 5 weeks. That will then only put me 8.5lb (or about 3/4 weeks) away from the 15 stones!

23rd August 2007 – 17st 1lbs    (-3lb)          Total loss – 7.5lb

Pleased with that weight loss. It menat i’ve lost half a stone in 2 weeks, it also won me slimmer of the week! Its amazing how glittery stickers can spur you on. I’m working away for a lot of next week, so a) it will be hard to stick to the Slimming World diet whilst eating out, and b) I won’t be able to make it for the weigh in next thursday. I just hope I can stick to it as best I can, do as much running as I can and in two weeks I should be able to record some kind of weight loss (2lb would be nice to take me into the 16′s for the first time in a long while!)

16th August 2007 – 17st 4lbs    (-4.5lb)

First weeks weight loss is always good, but was a bit surprised how much it was as i’d not had the ‘best’ of weekends on the eating a drinking front! But I did do a Half Marathon, so I suppose it balances itself out. I’m hoping for another 3lb this week, which should be helped by Belper 30k, and the fact I have no social engagements this weekend.

9th August 2007  -  17st 8.5lbs

Starting weight. Bit disappointed it was so high, but the only way is down!

Well done Matt, here’s to many more glittery stickers.
Will make sure the larder is empty of all but “good” food next weekend.

Matty, you’re an inspiration! Well done (so far) and keep up the good work. Will be cheering you on (probably whilst sitting in the pub, piling on the pounds).
