Food

The rules state you must eat a minimum of 2100 calories a day, and that you carry all of your food for the week with you in your backpack. I had never really considered the weight of food before, but a quick calculation showed that the food alone is likely to weigh in excess of 3kg at the start of the week. 

Seeing as I will be carrying all of my food on back for the week I shall be thoroughly researching the various foods available and paying particular attention to the calories per weight ratio! It is also important to consider the durability of the food and assess whether it will be able to survive in the desert where tempertaures reach in excess of 45 degC.  

Although i’m not keen on adding any unnecessary weight to my backpack I really don’t think 2100 calories a day is suffiecient when you are running the equivalent of a marathon a day for a week. So I shall be aiming to carry and consume around 2800 – 3000 calories per day.
